 ¾ Court Sprint

 

This test is used to determine straight on speed over a distance of 75 feet.  Athletes will start on the baseline in a split stance and run to the opposite free throw line.   Time will be measured by Fusion Sport Electronic Laser-Timing Gates.

 

 

Vertical Jump

 

The Vertical Jump will measure an athlete’s ability to generate power with his/her legs, which is an important factor in the lower-body strength of an athlete.  Keeping the feet flat on the ground, the point of the fingertips is marked or recorded.  This is called the standing reach height.  The athlete will then jump as high as possible.  By using both arms and legs to assist in projecting the body upwards, the athlete will then jump as high as possible.  The difference in the standing reach height and the jump height in “inches” is the score.

Max Vertical Jump

 

The Max Vertical Jump will measure an athlete’s ability to generate power with his/her legs after taking a running start of 3 steps and finishing with an explosive jump.   Keeping the feet flat on the ground, the point of the fingertips is marked or recorded.  This is called the standing reach height.  The athlete will then take his/her running start of 3 steps and jump as high as possible.  The difference in the standing reach height and the jump height in “inches” is the score.   It will be measured using the Vertec Measuring Device.   This drill will simulate going for a rebound in a game situation. 

 

Lane Agility Drill (Sprint, Shuffle, Backpedal)

 

This drill will measure the quickness/movement of the player going forward, laterally and backwards.  The athletes will start on 1 side of the lane at the baseline.  He/She will then sprint to the elbow at the top of the lane, shuffle across to the elbow on the other side, backpedal to the opposite baseline, shuffle across, shuffle across again, sprint, shuffle and backpedal to the original starting position.  Time will be measured using Fusion Sport Smartspeed Laser-Timed Testing Equipment. 

 

Shuttle Drill (Lateral Quickness)

 

This drill is a test that measures lateral movement.  Athletes will start in the center of the lane facing the gate.  When the athlete is set, he/she runs to the one side of the lane and touches with his/her foot.  The athlete will then sprint to the other side of the lane and touch the line with his/her foot.  The athlete will then sprint through the center to the other side and finish the drill.  This drill is similar to the Pro Agility

(5-10-5) Drill.  Time will be measured by Fusion Sport Smartspeed Laser-Timed Testing Equipment.

 

Zig-Zag Drill with Basketball

 

The Zig-Zag Drill will measure the quickness and cutting ability of the player going from left to right with the basketball for ¾ court.  5 Cones/poles will be measured at a distance 10 feet apart and 30 feet forward for a total of 75 feet.  The athlete must dribble around the cones/poles at their quickest pace under control for the ¾ court length.  The athlete will be timed from the starting position to the ending position using Fusion Sport Smartspeed Laser-Timed Testing Equipment.
